Quartz Countertop Thickness
Two numbers cover almost every residential quartz project: two centimeters and three centimeters. The difference shows up in overhangs, sinks and edges.

Quartz slabs are produced in metric thicknesses. Two centimeters is roughly three-quarters of an inch; three centimeters is roughly one and a quarter inches. A one-and-a-half centimeter product exists for specific applications but is uncommon in residential countertop work.
Three Centimeter
The default for kitchens. Three-centimeter material is generally strong enough to carry a modest unsupported overhang, to hold an undermount sink without a plywood substrate in many cases, and to be finished with a substantial-looking edge directly from the slab. Exact support requirements depend on slab thickness, quartz manufacturer guidance, cabinet construction, layout and fabricator specifications.
It also gives a more solid presence on an island, which matters visually when the countertop is a focal point.
Two Centimeter
Thinner, lighter and appropriate for vanities, laundry tops and smaller runs. In kitchens, two-centimeter material is typically installed over a supporting substrate and usually built up at the edge so the front reads thicker than the slab actually is.
Two centimeter is also the material of choice for a minimalist thin-edge look, where the whole point is a slim profile.

Thickness and Overhangs
Thickness contributes to overhang capacity but does not replace support. Even in three-centimeter material, a seating overhang beyond roughly ten to twelve inches needs brackets, steel plates or a knee wall. Anyone telling you a fifteen-inch bar overhang needs nothing because the material is thick is wrong.

Thicker material is not proportionally stronger against point loads. Support is about leverage, not just slab thickness.
Getting a Thicker Look
A built-up edge laminates or miters additional material at the front so the countertop appears two, three or more inches thick while the field remains standard thickness. This is how a modern slab-look kitchen is normally achieved — full thickness slabs at those dimensions would be impractical to handle and enormously heavy.

- Deliberately slim contemporary look: two centimeter, properly supported.
