Every quartz countertop is cut to order, so in a sense all of it is custom. What people usually mean by custom is a project that departs from the standard rectangle-and-sink formula: a kitchen with angled walls, a curved bar, a built-up edge thicker than the slab, or a surface that is not a countertop at all.

Shapes Beyond the Standard Run

Curves and angles are templated exactly like straight runs; they just consume more material because the offcuts are less useful.

• Angled and chamfered corners — common where a peninsula meets a walkway.
• Radius corners and curved fronts — softer geometry for islands and bars.
• Multi-level tops — a raised bar behind a lower prep counter.
• Odd-shaped kitchens — older Jacksonville homes with walls that were never square.
• Notched pieces — around columns, posts and structural elements.

Built-Up and Mitered Edges

A built-up edge creates the appearance of a thicker slab by joining an additional strip of material under the front edge, or by mitering a wrapped edge. Two-inch, three-inch and even thicker looks are achievable from standard material.

Surfaces Other Than Countertops

• Fireplace surrounds and hearths — check material heat guidance for the specific collection.
• Laundry room tops — including surfaces that span front-load machines.
• Built-in desks and homework stations.
• Shower benches, curbs and tub decks in a primary bath.
• Interior bar tops and beverage stations.

We keep quartz indoors. Engineered quartz contains polymer resin, and prolonged direct sun exposure can affect some products, so exterior kitchens and pool bars are not a quartz application we recommend.

How Custom Work Gets Priced

Custom shapes affect cost in three ways: material waste from irregular cuts, additional fabrication time, and additional installation complexity. A curved bar front is not expensive because the curve is difficult — it is expensive because of what happens to the rest of the slab.

Starting a Custom Project

Bring a sketch, photos of the space, and a description of what is not working with the current layout. Rough dimensions help. If an architect or designer is involved, drawings are useful, but the template visit remains the measurement of record.
