Installing quartz is not like installing laminate. The material is heavy, rigid and cut to a template rather than trimmed on site, which means almost all of the quality of the finished job is decided before anyone carries a slab through your door. Cabinets have to be level. Sink and cooktop dimensions have to be exact. Seam locations have to be chosen for both structure and sightline. Get those right and installation day is quiet and uneventful — which is the goal.

Before Anything Is Measured

Cabinets must be final. If cabinets are being replaced, refaced, painted or shifted, all of that work needs to be complete and the boxes securely fastened before templating. A template taken against unfinished cabinetry will not fit the finished room.

Appliances and fixtures should be selected. The sink model determines the cutout and the reveal. The cooktop or range determines the opening size and the amount of material left around it. A faucet with a side sprayer or a soap dispenser adds holes that are drilled during fabrication, not on site.

Templating: The Most Important Hour

Templating is the process of capturing the exact shape of your cabinet runs. Walls are rarely straight, corners are rarely square, and older Jacksonville homes in particular have settled in ways that a tape measure will not reveal. Digital templating captures those irregularities so the finished piece follows the room rather than fighting it.

During template we confirm overhang dimensions, edge profile, seam locations, splash height and cutout positions. This is the right moment to ask questions — after template, changes mean re-cutting material.

Seam Placement

Any countertop run longer than the usable slab dimension needs a seam. So does most L-shaped and U-shaped geometry. A good seam is structurally supported, falls where the pattern can be aligned, and sits away from the room's primary sightline.

Seams are typically avoided in the middle of a sink cutout where the material is narrowest, and are not usually placed over a dishwasher opening without support. We show you the planned locations before fabrication.

A seam in quartz is visible if you look for it. A well-planned seam is one you stop noticing after a week. Anyone promising an invisible seam is overselling.

Fabrication Planning

Fabrication converts the template into finished pieces: cutting the slab, shaping the edge profile, cutting sink and cooktop openings, drilling faucet holes and polishing the exposed edges. Waterfall panels and built-up mitered edges add steps at this stage because separate pieces have to be joined at precise angles.

We coordinate fabrication details for your project — layout on the slab, vein direction, cutout sizes and edge treatment — so that the pieces that arrive match what was planned.

Installation Day

Plumbing reconnection is coordinated around the set. Adhesive needs time to cure before the sink is put back into service, so the kitchen is briefly out of commission around install day. We talk through that sequence during planning rather than promising a fixed number of hours.

1. The existing countertop is removed if that is in scope, and the cabinet tops are cleaned.
2. Cabinets are checked for level and shimmed where needed. Quartz does not flex, so this step is not optional.
3. Pieces are dry-fit, checked against walls and adjusted.
4. Seams are joined with color-matched adhesive and pulled tight.
5. The top is secured, and the undermount sink is set if it was not pre-attached.
6. Edges and seams are cleaned, and we walk the finished installation with you.

What We Ask of You

• Clear the countertops and the cabinet bases beneath the sink.
• Make a path from the entry to the kitchen — slabs are heavy and awkward.
• Confirm that your water shutoffs work, especially in older homes.
• Keep pets out of the work area during the set.
• Be available for the final walkthrough so anything you notice gets addressed on the spot.

After Installation
